Many status meetings take too long because of long-windedness, but others drag on because people are working too hard.

Inevitably, important issues are raised in the updates, and the meeting comes to a halt in order to discuss them. Instead, the leader (you) should table these topics until the reports are done, and then excuse everyone except those who need to discuss these issues. Meetings will finish faster, and those that don’t will have a clear reason for going on.
