Fred Harteis - Rich DeVos Wisdom

I read a great article on www.FredHarteis.com that I wanted to share...

Weather you are making a business decision or any important decision in your life. These steps by Rich DeVos could guide you in the right direction.

"It is impossible to win the race unless you venture to run, impossible to win the victory unless you dare to battle. " --Rich DeVos

The Rich DeVos Guide to Good Decision Making:

These eight principles have made him one of the most effective and successful decision makers of all time:

Prayer is two-way communication, so talk to God and ask him for wisdom - then listen for his answer.

Define the Decision that Must be MadeAsk yourself: What am I trying to achieve with this decision? What is the problem that must be solved? What are my options? Avoid looking at the decision in either/or terms. There are often three or more options to any decision, so think creatively and expand your options.

Gather Information. Get as much information as possible - but don't wait too long to decide. Avoid getting caught in "the paralysis of analysis." Usually a good decision can be made with considerably less than 100 percent of the available information; 50 to 75 percent is usually sufficient.

Make a List of Pros and Cons. This will help you to think clearly and logically about the decision you must make.

Listen to Your Instincts and Intuition. This does not mean, "trust your feelings." Feelings are never a good substitute for clear-eyed analysis. But most decisions are improved by listening to your intuition as well as your logic.

Orrin Woodward - The Next Millionaires

One of Orrin Woodward's sites has an article about Paul Pilzer's new book that I wanted to share...

Economist Paul Zane Pilzer’s new book release, The Next Millionaires, (http://www.paulzanepilzer.com/tnm.htm) could not be a more market specific endorsement of literally every aspect of the Team’s business model. Pilzer discusses five markets/industries in which some of these next 10 million millionaires will emerge and the Team is and has been capitalizing upon all five.

Where Internet technology meets product distribution there is e-commerce, which is central to the Team’s business model.

Ø And with the Internet and a home-based business, there is no need for massive overhead expenditures and operating capital for brick and mortar buildings, inventory, personnel, equipment, etc.

Ø With the Team’s focus on the exclusive wellness industry products through the DOT1-STEP program, we have a niche in a market reported to be presently at $300 billion on its way to a trillion.

Ø One of the key factors in business success is the ability to expand and teach others. Pilzer calls it bridging the technology gap through intellectual distribution. The Team’s intellectual distribution system is not only empowering to those seeking to capitalize on the 5 areas Pilzer identifies, but also provides the leverage with which to expand at whatever rate we can get this information into other people’s hands.

Billy Florence Leadership Wisdom: Kindness Commentary

Billy Florence, “John Boyle O’Reilly poem is profound in it’s impact and provides an excellent commentary on kindness. “Each of us decides which one is true for us,” adds Rich Florence.

“What is real good?”
I asked in a musing mood;
“Order,” said the law court;
“Knowledge,” said the school;
“Truth,” said the wise man;
“Pleasure,” said the fool;
“Love,” said the maiden;
“Beauty,” said the page;
“Freedom,” said the dreamer;
“Home,” said the sage;
“Fame,” said the soldier;
“Equity,” said the seer.
Spake my heart full sadly;
“The answer is not here”;
Then, within my bosom,
Softly, this I heard:
"Each heart holds the secret—
Kindness is the word.”

Billy Florence - Spend Less to Save More

One of the best ways to put more money in savings is to spend less money! Many people think they just need to make more money and while that is good it doesn't always solve the problem. We must first learn to spend less than we are making. So simply spending less can help to pay off debt quicker and also put more money in savings.

Here are some great financial tips from Kiplinger.com that I read:

Start an automatic savings or investment plan with a bank, a mutual fund or your retirement plan at work so money is taken off the top of your paycheck, before you see it or spend it.

Deposit your paycheck directly to savings rather than to your checking account. You can transfer money to pay your bills, but you'll think twice about withdrawing additional cash.

Limit yourself to one ATM withdrawal per week, and make your cash last.

Can't decide whether to buy something you've seen at a store? Give yourself a 24-hour cooling-off period. Chances are you won't go back.

Once you finish paying off a loan or credit-card balance, keep making payments and put the money in a savings or investment account.

These financial tips and more were found in the following article from Kipinger.com:

Randy Haugen: Web Based Business And Internet Activity

by Randy Haugen

As Americans spend more time and spend more money online, business models that leverage this trend will continue to expand and prosper. Would be entrepreneurs say the advancing internet tools and platforms are making their dreams of having a business of their own easier to launch.

Last quarter’s internet searching and purchasing hit record highs. A Harris poll reported that people are accessing the web from more places than home or work. With the expansion of wireless growth in cities like Philadelphia and expanding access to broadband wireless connections, we are spending more time communicating, searching, and shopping than ever. Adults now average 9 hours a week online, up from 8 last year.

Over 74% of adults are online now, up a bit from last year. And now 21% say they use the Internet from places other than home or work; those places could be public libraries, or hotels or airports with wireless access for travelers. And broadband usage has increased as well. 54% of adults use a broadband connection for Internet activities.

About Randy Haugen and Val Haugen
Investor Randy Haugen, owns Haugen Corporation. He is a part owner of Legacy Business Group and serves on their Board of Directors. Through his background in business management and customer service, Haugen’s businesses have matured fruitfully.

Haugen's children, although young, take great pride in their father’s ability to lead and mentor others to success and they take advantage of his expertise as they develop their growing interests.

Billy Florence - Financial Rules to Grow By

I was reading a recent article from CNNMoney.com. It had 25 rules to grow rich by. There were some really great rules or principles that I wanted to share...

Billy Florence TEAM - Financial Rules

Spend no more than 21/2 times your income on a home. For a down payment, it's best to come up with at least 20%.

If you're not saving 10% of your salary, you aren't saving enough.

Keep three months' worth of living expenses in a bank savings account or a money-market fund for emergencies. If you have kids or rely on one income, make it sixmonths'.

The best way to save money on a car is to buy a late-model used car and drive it until it's junk. A car loses 30% of its value in the first year.

Resist the urge to buy the latest computer or other gadget as soon as it comes out. Wait three months and the price will be lower.

These Financial Rules were found in this article on CNNMoney.com:

Billy Florence & Fred Harteis - Leadership Style

Billy Florence & Fred Harteis - Leadership Style

“Success of business or a country rises or falls on leadership and character. My friend Fred Harteis, models great business leadership-style as head of Harteis International and founder of Biznet Productions but also as husband and father. Fred doesn’t just talk the talk -- he walks the walk.” – Billy Florence

Billy Florence: Fred, who in history has influenced your leadership style?

Fred Harteis: Abraham Lincoln is one.

Billy Florence: Why Lincoln, Fred?

Fred Harteis: Lincoln had to unite a divided people and lead for the good of the nation.

Billy Florence: What else do you see as a secret of Lincoln's leadership style?

Fred Harteis: His faith, love of reading and caring for people.

Billy Florence: Reading?

Fred Harteis: Lincoln placed a high value on reading good books and continuing his education. The majority of his education was in a home school environment.

Billy Florence: Have you benefited personally, Fred from studying the life of Lincoln?

Harteis: Yes! I'd suggest to anyone interested in leadership to read the book "Lincoln on Leadership."

Billy Florence: If there some characteristic of Lincoln that comes to mind, Fred?

Fred Harteis: Lincoln was a humble man who was willing to over look the weaknesses of those around him, to focus on what they could accomplish to help the nation.

Billy Florence: Any final tip, Fred?

Harteis: We all have great potential; most just lack the direction and inspiration. I encourage people to find an atmosphere that provides and promotes personal and professional development.

Billy Florence Business Growth: Wi-Fi Growth Cities

Billy Florence Business News: Wi-Fi for everyone has become the goal of several cities. The goal is to make high-speed access available to everyone with a PC and a wireless card. Cities and towns are recruiting corporations to build Wi-Fi networks. As this happens local government will be able to move more of its services online.

Winning bidders pay to build and maintain the cities network. Earthlink won the bid for Philadelphia. Earthlink’s partner, Wireless Philadelphia, is the non-profit organization helping Philadelphia to become the nation’s first completely wireless major city. By fall of next year, wireless high-speed Internet access is scheduled to be available throughout all 135 square miles of Philadelphia.

The cost to Earthlink is estimated between $10 and $20 million dollars. The controversy on the Wi-Fi service is caused by cost and access issues.

Billy Florence: DeVos Business Legend and Philanthropist

Billy Florence: I have had the pleasure to know and work with Rich DeVos for a number of years.

Rich (Richard M) DeVos, was born March 4, 1926, in Grand Rapids, Mich. He attended Calvin College in Grand Rapids and married a Grand Rapids girl.

Rich and I served in the same branch of service. Rich served in the US Air Force from 1944 to 1946. My service was begun several decades later.

I was recently reread Pat Williams book about Rich, “How to Be like Rich DeVos.

Rich DeVos and Jay Van Andle built their Amway business from scratch. It has grown to circle the globe. They did it the hard way. They know what it’s like to be poor. It’s impossible to replace that experience.

Rich’s book Hope From My Heart describes the life-changing experience of Rich’s heart transplant at age 71, and imparts ten lessons for life.

The life lessons in this book are important at any life stage. Rich covers subjects like persistence, confidence, optimism, respect and faith.

Legacy Team's Colombo DiSalvatore - Paying For College

Colombo DiSalvatore: Paying for college is a major financial concern for many families. Kiplinger top 100 public colleges list was recently released. Their key finding -- “Yes, you can still get a first-class education at a reasonable price.” Schools making the “best” list offer a combination of top-flight academics at comparatively reasonable prices. Kiplinger used Thomson Peterson’s information and added factors such as percentage of freshman class scoring 600 or higher on verbal and math on SAT into their calculations.

TOP POINTS EARNED BY

Academic quality counts for 2/3 of score and the tiebreaker was the average dept at graduation.

1. University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. In state cost $12,029. Average Debt $11,519.
2. University of Florida. In state cost $10,284. Average Debt $13,744.
3. University of Virginia. In state cost $14,522. Average Debt $14,065.
